One of the things that strikes the first time visitors to Lanzarote is the amount and type of accommodation they find there and the style it’s organised. The amenities of the four major resorts around the island – Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca and the latest, smallest and poshest holiday centre at Puerto Calero – tend to be arranged in layers

Those layers consist of; first, the beach; next, the beachside road and footpath, lined with shops, bars and restaurants, and third; accommodation. Compared with numerous alternative holiday locations, the accommodation in resorts on Lanzarote covers a lot of space, because high-rise buildings are disallowed

Various types of accommodation then be inclined to look same from the outside, whether they are hotels or complexes of self-catering apartments or villas. The similarities in size are reinforced by the virtually common covering of the island’s buildings in white color, creating an effect of huge sugar cubes, scattered commonly around the areas at the back of the restaurants and shops.

Some hotels in Lanzarote, though, do have beachfront locations, while one at least has managed to use the beach near it as its own exclusive beach.
Arriving at any of the major hotels in Lanzarote in any of the leading resorts, visitors are likely to find themselves checking in at a counter in a extensive, bright reception area, with exits to smart restaurants and bars, landscaped pool areas, sports amenities and, increasingly, spa and wellness amenities.

Four-star hotels in Puerto del Carmen consist of the Sol Lanzarote, Beatriz Playa, Jameos Playa in the quieter Matagorda area; the Riu Palace and San Antonio, near the extensive Pocillos beach, and the Los Fariones hotel, with its restricted beach adjacently Playa Chica.

Hotels of the same standard in Playa Blanca are the Princess Yaiza; H10 Rubicon Palace, Lanzarote Princess and Timanfaya Palace; Iberostar Papagayo and Natura Palace. Costa Teguise has the Beatriz Costa and Spa; Occidental Oasis and Grand; the pretty recently opened and the deluxe five star Gran Melia Salinas.

There are also two very big hotels in the comparatively latest resort of Puerto Calero, near Puerto del Carmen, where the Hesperia and Iberostar groups have built grand four-star hotels behind and above the harbour full of luxury yachts

Like the majority of the large hotels on the island, they each include in their guest amenities a generous spa space offering personal or packages of health and beauty treatments

It isn’t uncommon that more and more people are thinking about family trips abroad as the summer approaches. After all, who wants to stay in Britain during the summer months? And as usual Spain continues to be probably the most preferred destinations for British tourists, with the Costas, the Balearics and the Canaries all vying for business.

Lanzarote is the nearest island to Africa and is located as the east of the Canaries. The area boasts of incredible weather and excellent accessibility and flights to Lanzarote are readily available at any time from all UK airports with flights times a measly four hours. And with returns from as low as €100 this makes this popular holiday island accessible to all.

As well as great weather, Lanzarote also boasts high standards of tourist accommodation offering a wide range of hotels and apartment complexes. The island is also littered with an excellent choice of Lanzarote villas available for rent in all of the main resorts and towns across the island, as well as in the countryside too.

Exploring the island is also incredibly easy as Lanzarote is not large. Lanzarote car hire is also much cheaper than in the UK or Eire and there?s also a lot less traffic on the road which makes sightseeing a real pleasure.

So what are the best sites one can explore? The island boasts of excellent beaches with sand stretching everywhere. Unlike the Canary Islands, the beaches in this area are made up of golden sand. This is actually unique as having experienced eruptions for the last 300 years, the island is more volcanic than most. The Playa Quemada and El Golfo also has samples of black sand should one want to try it out.

Thanks to the influence of the local artist C?sar Manrique all of the buildings on Lanzarote are painted a universal white colour in order to create a pleasing overall aesthetic. The white buildings contrast with the black picon – volcanic chippings – which are used as mulch for brightly coloured flowers and plants which together combine to make the island a real pleasure to explore.

The south of the island is where the eruptions really made themselves felt – and here visitors can tour the eerie scenery of the Timanfaya National Park – home to hundreds of spent volcanoes which are known locally as the Fire Mountains. This is the first location to see within the island. As the landscapes here are haunting and unforgettable. Visitors would also love being served in restaurants that prepare food using volcano heat.

The Romantic Seine River in Paris, France

Seine River, Paris, France

What can be said about Paris that hasn’t been said already?

The French capital is one of the world’s most fascinating cities, boasting stunning architecture and celebrated landmarks like the Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral and iron lattice Eiffel Tower (hiding in the backdrop).

Similar to Amsterdam and Venice, Paris is renowned for its romantic riverboat tours. Although the riverboats are a popular tourist attraction in Paris, we preferred to explore the historical city on foot. We spent three days wandering around the dazzling city and still feel like we only scratched the surface. Fortunately, visitors have the option to rent apartments in Paris, many located within steps of the city’s top attractions.

This photo was taken in December, when we visited France while on a snowboarding trip in the French Alps. Winter is not the best time to visit Paris because of its unpredictable weather, but we actually really enjoyed experiencing the city during its offseason – it gave us a completely different perspective.

In case you hadn’t heard, Paris is pretty easy on the eyes and has a way of quickly filling up your camera’s memory card!
