We are supposed to use the boat cover, because they are used in all the months of summer and winter. We are also in need to maintain them in the off season. The special maintenance is needed for it, when we are parking them near the garage or at the dock. It is our special duty to prevent them from the water and dust particles. It is more convenient for us to get a boat cover to protect us parked vessel. The boat cover is similar to the car sheet covers. The protective boat covers keeps the boat away from dust, dirt and airborne chemicals. The boat covers are used to make the boat clean and shiny. The water and airborne chemicals will erode the paint job in the boat. We can spend less time in tidying up the boat and more time in riding the boat. We can save our time by means of using the boat covers. We can find different types of boat covers for sale in the market. We can choose the boat covers as according to our wish and it is based on the preferences and needs. it is more preferable for us to choose the plastic sheets.

Making Traditional Toffee in Banos, Ecuador

Making Toffee, Ecuador

This week’s photo comes from the town of Banos, an outdoor adventure mecca located in the Ecuador’s Andes Mountains. Banos is to Ecuador what Whistler is to Canada and Queenstown to New Zealand.

Aside from its natural beauty, active volcanoes and soothing thermal baths, Banos has become famous for its traditional toffee. The popular hard candy is sold on virtually every street corner throughout the town, with proud local merchants happy to showcase the unique manufacturing process. As the photo illustrates, the tasty toffee is stretched over a wooden hook, beaten and shaped for packaging.

If you’re ever in the region, make sure you stop into Banos and sample its delicious candy!

With the summer holiday season coming nearer, loads of people are turning their thoughts to vacations abroad. After all, who wants to fritter away their summertime being subject to difficult to rely on British weather? Of course, the most popular destination remains Spain with the Canaries, Costs and Balearics some of the most popular.

Lanzarote is the nearest island to Africa and is located as the east of the Canaries. It offers both winter and summer sun, thanks to it?s incredibly clement year round climate and Lanzarote Flights are available in all UK airports, the journey takes as little as four hours. With the return trip costing around €100, the holiday island is one of the most attractive of all.

A wide range of hotel choices is also available, providing tourists with the best accommodations possible. Whilst for those who prefer to book self catering accommodation there is a wide range of villas in Lanzarote to book for those who want self catering accommodation for a more private vacation.

Since Lanzarote is pretty small, individuals can have an easy time exploring the area. Lanzarote car rental is also much cheaper than in the UK or Eire and there?s also a lot less traffic on the road which makes sightseeing a real pleasure.

So what are the top locations that tourists can look forward to? The island boasts of excellent beaches with sand stretching everywhere. Golden sand is sprinkled all over the area instead of the usual black sand found in the Canary Islands. This is perhaps a little strange as Lanzarote is in fact more volcanic than say Tenerife, having experienced eruptions as recently as 300 years ago. Those who want to try out the black sand can find those around the El Golfo or the Playa Quemada.

The talents of artist C?sar Manrique also made it possible for the buildings to have an aesthetic appeal. Tourists will find that the island boasts of a palette of colors with white buildings blending perfectly with plants and flowers.

The north part of the island shows the flora side of the environment. Especially in and around the Valley of 1000 Palms, home to the pretty little village of Haria and a tradition that dates back centuries of locals planting palms to mark the birth of babies in the pueblo. Haria also plays host to an excellent arts and craft market very week, but the largest market on the island is held every Sunday in Teguise, the former island capital.

One of the things that strikes the first time travellers to Lanzarote is the quantity and type of accommodation they come across there and the manner it’s organised. The services of the four key resorts around the island – Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca and the newest, smallest and poshest holiday centre at Puerto Calero – be likely to be arranged in layers

Those layers consist of; firstly, the beach; then, the beachside road and walkway, lined with shops, bars and restaurants, and third; accommodation. Compared with various other holiday locations, the accommodation in resorts on Lanzarote covers plenty of space, as high-rise buildings are disallowed

Several types of accommodation therefore be likely to appear alike from the outside, whether they are hotels or complexes of self-catering apartments or villas. The similarities in size are reinforced by the virtually common coating of the island’s buildings in white paint, creating an feeling of big sugar cubes, sprinkled widely over the areas at the rear of the restaurants and shops.

Some hotels in Lanzarote, though, do have beachfront locations, and one anyway has managed to treat the beach in front of it as its own exclusive beach.
Arriving at certain of the key hotels in Lanzarote in any of the primary resorts, visitors are likely to find themselves checking in at a counter in a generous, bright foyer, with exits to smart restaurants and bars, landscaped pool areas, sports services and, evermore, health resort and wellness services.

Four-star hotels in Puerto del Carmen feature the Sol Lanzarote, Beatriz Playa, Jameos Playa in the quieter Matagorda area; the Riu Palace and San Antonio, in close proximity to the extensive Pocillos beach, and the Los Fariones hotel, with its independent beach adjacently Playa Chica.

Hotels of identical standard in Playa Blanca are the Princess Yaiza; H10 Rubicon Palace, Lanzarote Princess and Timanfaya Palace; Iberostar Papagayo and Natura Palace. Costa Teguise has the Beatriz Costa and Spa; Occidental Oasis and Grand; the rather recently opened and the grand five star Gran Melia Salinas.

There are also two massive hotels in the fairly latest resort of Puerto Calero, near Puerto del Carmen, where the Hesperia and Iberostar groups have built grand four-star hotels behind and above the harbour full of deluxe yachts

Similar to the majority of the big hotels on the island, they each contain in their guest services a extensive health spa space offering independent or packages of wellbeing and beauty treatments

Always Get the Best Travel Deals with the Price Drop Protection Program

We all know how frustrating it can be when trying to find the best flight deals online.

Some people try and book way in advance to lock in the best rates, while others gamble and wait until the last minute with the hope that prices drop or there are any last minute cancellations to take advantage of.

Well, luckily there’s a new solution for fellow Canadians that we think is worth checking out.

How to Secure the Best Travel Deals Online

FlightNetwork.com, Canada’s 2nd largest online travel agency, just announced its new Price Drop Protection program the other week. It’s basically a free program that ensures you always get the best deal on your travels.

Here’s How Price Drop Protection Works

Once you’ve booked a flight, you are protected from any potential price drops up until the actual time of your flight. If the price should drop, Flight Network will actually give you the credits (called Price Drop Protection Dollars) back onto your account; which can then be used for future bookings.

It’s a simple yet innovative approach, and it’s a win-win situation for everyone.

If you’re like us, you hate finding out that someone else got a better deal on the exact same flight, especially when you did your due diligence and tried hard to get the best deal on flights.

According to an online poll conducted by FlightNetwork.com, other Canadians feel the same way. The poll of 793 Canadian consumers showed that respondents are educated, aware and concerned about airfare price drops and gains.

Below are some interesting stats taken from its press release:

  • 96.8% of respondents do not believe that everyone pays the same price on the same flight.
  • 87.4% believe that prices fluctuate after they’ve made a purchase and 70.5% indicated that they’ve checked to see if the cost of their flight went down after a ticket purchase.
  • The poll also showed that Canadian consumers are early shoppers; 55.7% indicated that they purchase their tickets well before the travel date. Specifically, 45.4% indicated that they purchase airfare tickets 3-6 weeks in advance and 39.0% responded that they purchase tickets months in advance.

We have yet to try the new service, but it seems like a smart concept that should keep its customers happy!

Did I ever tell you about the time I got Robbed by a Thai Prostitute?

I’ll bet that headline grabbed your attention! The sad part is – it’s true. I did get robbed by a Thai prostitute on the streets of Bangkok.

Now, before I tell you the story, let me first state that Thailand is a safe country. You don’t need to worry about getting robbed, just stay away from prostitutes at 3:00AM and you should be fine!

This story begins back in 2004, when we visited Thailand for the very first time. In fact, it was our first trip to the Asian continent, so you can imagine our sensory overload.

We did what most young backpackers do when they first visit Bangkok’s popular Khao San Road – drink excessively until the early hours of morning!

After filling ourselves with delicious street food and several cold Chang Beers, we began our slow walk back to the hostel. On the way, Nicole decided to stop in the closest 7-11 convenience store to pick up some calling cards.

The plan for the following day was to meet up with friends from Nicole’s student exchange program in Penang, Malaysia. To do so, we needed to purchase new calling cards so that we could inform them where the hostel was located. A seemingly uncomplicated task that turned out to be quite the ordeal.

While Nicole went inside the store, I decided to wait outside. Within seconds I was approached by a hungry prostitute for some “lovely good times”.

It was my own fault. I clearly looked intoxicated and was easy pickings, not something one should do in public (especially in a foreign country).

When the offer for “lovey, lovey” was refused, the prostitute decided to heat up the request and headed south, to the “no fly zone”. Startled by the clear lack of personal boundaries, I pushed her (or him?) away and politely declined once again.

The alcohol slowed down my internal processor. I was clearly confused – did that really just happen?!

I pushed her away and cautiously said, “not interested, move along”. She finally got the hint and walked away, turning back every few steps to see if I had miraculously changed my mind. No chance.

I actually thought the incident was quite comical. In fact, I recall opening the door to the air-conditioned 7-11 and yelling to Nicole, “you’re never going to believe this, a prostitute just grabbed my <insert slang term for male organ>!”

The store clerks didn’t care for my colourful commentary.

This is the EXACT store where the incident occurred (about 10 feet to the right).
We revisited Bangkok in 2009 and took this picture to capture the memory

What I failed to realize was that the “junk grabbing” was just a diversion for the crafty pickpocket to reach into my back pocket and grab my wallet.

Mission accomplished!

I didn’t realize that I had been robbed until the following morning, when it came time to check out of the hostel. I reached for my wallet and then it hit me. My mind raced to put the pieces back together. After we ripped apart our bags and searched every corner of the hostel room, we realized what had happened. Then panic set in.

“What if she got into my bank account?!”

“What if my credit card has been compromised?!”

A quick inventory revealed that I didn’t actually lose much. Fortunately, I make it habit to split up my important items. That night, I only carried my bank card, drivers license and about cash, all items that can be easily replaced.

We spent the better part of the day trying to call my Canadian bank (back in 2004 it wasn’t as easy to make international phone calls). When we finally connected with someone, we were informed that several attempts had been made on my account before the card was automatically cancelled.

No damage was done, the thief was unsuccessful in breaking into my bank account. But I can only image what happened to my drivers license!

At the time, I was super pissed off because we were on a tight budget. But, I’ve been telling this story for years now, so I think it was well worth the lost !

Photo from the town of Omis, located on the Croatian Coast

Town of Omis on the Croatian Coast

Located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea in the Dalmatia region of Croatia, about 26 km southeast of Split, is a small coastal town named Omis. We had heard wonderful things about the Croatian Riviera and the natural beauty of the Balkan Peninsula, but we didn’t expect to see such steep, rocky mountain landscapes. It was a welcomed surprise!

We actually didn’t mean to visit Omis, stumbling on it while searching for a supermarket during our stay at a vacation rental just south of Split. This photo was taken at the mouth of the Cetina River, where it flows into the emerald-green Adriatic Sea.

If you’re ever on the Croatian coast, do your best to visit this quaint seaside town!
