The Carnival of Venice is a genuine establishment. Its success goes beyond the borders, and is a very old practice indeed, it all started in the Middle Ages. I know you may find it tough to visualize but it was really framed by the "rules" and codes, from the Renaissance. And then, after disappearing for some considerable time, it reappeared in 1979, to our great delight in the form of the Carnival of Venice today. The mask was quickly honoured, and allowed all classes to hob-nob without excellence. And yes, at the time, the burghers and peasants could coexist, but in attire that weren't theirs. The issue of social standing at the time was already important. That's why the carnival was considered by the Venetians as a real opportunity. If you want to go to Venice, book your Location Appartement Venise, before your exit.

Classic costumes inspired by the comedia dell 'arte, for example Harlequin, for example, have become classics, but they are still effective.

Today, the Venice Carnival is one of the most renowned carnivals in the world. The costumes are ever-changing, just like the atmosphere, and the participators, the carnival is a major event in the city. The setting is ideal, the costumes amazing, and the Venetians friendly, so why don't you enjoy it? Visitors come from all around the globe to participate or simply watch this mad city, a town that is transformed into a big costume ball. Remember booking your appartements Venise

Venice is not only the most romantic city, it's also a party city. During the carnival period, you can see popular parades, concerts, shows, more conventional and lots of other attractions, so the revelry are a hit. It is pleasant to see the costumes impressed by different times in the parades : the traditional costumes mingle with modern costumes, which create a colourful color palette and a great atmosphere!

Vienna, Austria

The bath is good, although the bed could do well out of a measure of renovation. The Austria Trend Hotel Donauzentrum is undeniably deserving of the steep rate. This hotel is spotless. The resort extremely memorable. Ideal location. The staff was most cordial and useful with their recommendations on where to go in Vienna. The hotel has a roomy parking space

S’Illot, Spain

Let me fill you in on how the trip was: it was second-class – to put it mildly. Not the worst experience I’ve had but almost, what should I talk about first? The only thing worth mentioning was the weather – it was fine.

This is a guest post by Katie Robinson, a travel writer and guest blogger living in Chile

Travel tips for driving abroad

Driving abroad can be stressful. The first time I drove abroad was when I moved to Santiago, Chile. My flight arrived early in the morning, so I was instantly confronted with the most stressful time of the day… the morning rush hour. That ended up being the least of my worries as I faced many new challenges, such as driving on the other side of the road, sharing the roads with impatient drivers, avoiding potholes and navigating my way through a city I had never visited before.

Southern Alps Campervan, New Zealand

This was my first South American driving experience and everyone says that if I can drive in Santiago in Chile, I can drive anywhere. Apart from the cultural driving differences, you also have to make sure that you are respecting the laws of the country.

Here are a few of my travel tips for anyone going on holiday and wanting to hire a car

  • Before you travel
Make sure you find out if you can use your driving license in the country you will be travelling to. Most countries recognize a European driving license, however most US driving licenses are not. If you are unsure, you should apply for an International Driving Permit which is typically valid in most countries.
  • Hiring a car
If you plan to hire a car at the airport, you should pre-book ahead of time to guarantee availability. It’s important to find out what documents the rental company requires to process the booking, so read the fine print. These companies will also be able to inform you if your license is valid in the country, allowing you to plan accordingly. Remember that some airlines have special offers and, by presenting your boarding pass or proof of airline tickets, you can sometimes get a discount on car hire.
  • Take a test drive
If you are driving on the other side of the road for the first time, practice first in a less populated area until you get the hang of it. Same thing applies if you are not familiar with driving manual vehicles.
  • GPS or map
If you have a good sense of direction you may not need a GPS, but having more information is always beneficial. Plan your journey by looking at maps ahead of time. Look for one way roads, bridges and potential traffic zones. It sounds simple, but these small acts of preparation with come in handy when you are feeling the pressure of impatient local drivers.
  • Know the law
Try and get a copy of the foreign country’s driving laws before you start driving. You will probably be able to find such information on the embassy’s website. Do not make the mistake of assuming your home country rules apply.
  • Special roads and tolls
When I was in Chile, cars had to be fitted with a special device that made a beep when driving on highways… it was like an automatic toll. Make sure you ask the person lending or hiring you the car if you are set up to use all the roads. If you drive on highways where you are required to have a special permit, and you don’t, you will likely be fined. Ask the questions, it may just prevent unnecessary complications.
